De reden is simpel: we willen de dienstverlening voor alle inwoners verbeteren met de middelen die we samen hebben. Door de personeelsleden en de financi\u00eble middelen van beide gemeenten samen te voegen, kunnen we meer doen. De gezamenlijke financi\u00eble slagkracht wordt ook groter zodat de belastingen laag kunnen worden gehouden. Een fusie is dus een logische stap zodat het gemeentebestuur alle complexe taken die worden toebedeeld vanuit Vlaanderen kan blijven uitvoeren. Door de stap nu te zetten krijgt de gemeentekas bovendien een financi\u00eble bonus van 12.297.600 euro van Vlaanderen. Dankzij deze schuldovername is de fusiegemeente schuldenvrij en is er extra ruimte voor investeringen in wegen, fietspaden, gebouwen, openbaar groen enzovoort. Fusioneren is dus kiezen voor een effici\u00ebnter gemeentebestuur met een betere dienstverlening terwijl de fiscale lasten voor alle inwoners zo laag als mogelijk worden gehouden.
